Man Utd news: Jose Mourinho STILL odds-on favourite in sack race despite Newcastle turnaround

The Special One remains as the favourite in the sack race and is still odds at 4/6 despite the winless streak coming to an end.

Mourinho and his Red Devils eventually silenced the critics after a nervy start at Old Trafford saw the Toon take a 2-0 lead.

But drastic tactical changes and brave substitutions inspired a second-half comeback, with Alexis Sanchez scoring the crucial winner.

Reports suggested Mourinho would be sacked regardless of the result last weekend, but the Portuguese boss appears to have bought himself more time.

Betfair Spokesperson Katie Baylis said: “United’s last gasp win over Newcastle on Saturday has seen Mourinho’s odds of being first PL manager sacked drift slightly.

Betfair: Premier League sack race

Jose Mourinho 4/6

Neil Warnock 7/1

Rafa Benitez 15/2

Mark Hughes 14/1

Claude Puel 16/1

Slavisa Jokanovic 17/1

Sean Dyche 20/1

Manuel Pellegrini 22/1

David Wagner 22/1

Roy Hodgson 33/1

"But he’s still the odds-on 4/6 favourite on the Sack Race market and surely glad for the international break this weekend to regather somewhat.

"Neil Warnock is now 7/1 to go first with Cardiff still without a win this season, while Rafa Benitez is just behind at 15/2 with that loss at Old Trafford surely a huge blow as Newcastle also search for their first win of the season.”

It's no surprise Warnock and Benitez are close behind Mourinho considering Cardiff and Newcastle are both winless still in the league.

The only other team yet to win a match in the top flight are Huddersfield, but David Wagner seems relatively safe at 22/1.
