Man Utd flop signings Fred and Dalot feature as Prem's worst value XI revealed

JOSE MOURINHO left one more parting gift for Manchester United after his sacking – by shackling the club with a pair of massively overpriced signings.

Fred and Diogo Dalot both feature in the worst value XI based on transfers made during the 2018-19 season.

Major criteria examined, by position

Goalkeeper – Minutes played, clean sheets, saves, catches, punches, passes.

Defenders – Minutes played, clean sheets, passes, tackles, blocks.

Midfielders – Minutes played, goals, assists, passes, tackles, crosses, chances created.

Forwards – Minutes played, goals, assists, shots on target, key chances created.

The Sportsman conducted research into all transfers made this season and worked out how much player's really cost based on things such as minutes played, goals, assists and tackles, based on position.

Brazilian midfielder Fred cost Mourinho £52million last summer – meaning he's cost United over £31,000 per impactful incident.

Team-mate Dalot, a £19m summer purchase, meanwhile has cost nearly £19,000 per contribution.

Liverpool star Naby Keita (£27,008) and Manchester City's record-buy Riyad Mahrez also make the XI (£30,181).

But no-one even comes close to Burnley centre-back Ben Gibson – who has cost the Clarets £150,000 per meaningful contribution this season.

Fabri takes the goalkeeper spot in the most overpriced XI, with Marc Navarro and Caglar Soyuncu joining Gibson and Dalot in defence.

Keita, Fred and Mahrez are joined in midfield by Huddersfield winger Ramadan Sobhi – costing £47,000 per incident.

Up front, Matej Vydra and Leo Bonatini take the starting spots costing around £30,000 per contribution this term.

While this XI may look bad – spare a thought for Danny Ward, Alex Smithis, Philippe Sandler and Lee Grant.

None of the four players have even made their debut for their new club yet – with Ward the most overpriced signing of the season at £12.5m for doing absolutely nothing.
