A man has been detained in connection with an armed robbery that occurred at the home of former NFL wide receiver Joe Jurevicius on Friday night, according to an incident report obtained by USA TODAY Sports on Tuesday.
Multiple televisionstations in Cleveland reported that Jurevicius was robbed at gunpoint in his home, which is located in the village of Gates Mills, a suburb of Cleveland. The incident led to the detention of 24-year-old Robert Howse, who was being held at Cuyahoga County Jail and awaiting charges as of Monday night.
Gates Mills police chief Gregg Minichello told USA TODAY Sports in an email that he is unable to release additional details about the alleged aggravated robbery because the investigation is ongoing. But he noted that no one was injured in the incident.
Fox 8, a television station in Cleveland, reported that an elderly woman was also robbed at her home in the same neighborhood earlier in the week.
Jurevicius declined to speak about the specifics of what occurred when reached by Fox 8, instead saying: "I support the police department. I support the FBI. I support the American flag."
Jurevicius spent more than a decade in the NFL with the New York Giants, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Seattle Seahawks and Cleveland Browns. The Penn State product finished with 4,119 career receiving yards and 29 touchdown catches and won a Super Bowl ring with Tampa Bay in 2003.
