Luis Enrique’s first-half notes as Spain were mauled by England revealed

The former Barcelona boss watched in horror as Gareth Southgate’s men raced into a 3-0 lead during the first 45 minutes of the Nations League clash.

Two goals from Raheem Sterling and a great hit by Marcus Rashford forced Enrique into making a flurry of notes during the match in Seville.

And his first-half scribblings show that the tactician was unhappy about a number of issues.

Enrique’s main gripe was with the space afforded to Sterling, with the Manchester City winger running Chelsea’s Marcos Alonso ragged at times.

One note said “Sterling not being picked up”, while another urged Alonso to mark Sterling "inside".

Other notes included: “Not so much midfield line of three”, “individual errors” and “position of full-backs.”

Enrique appeared to have grave concerns over Wolves’ Jonny Otto, with Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford also highlighted for his immense kicking.

There was even a rough plan to change from a 4-3-3 to 3-4-3, which surely would have included at least one substitution.

But Enrique kept faith with his original system and saw his side go on to score twice, leaving England to run out 3-2 victors.
