Liverpool linked with shock Memphis Depay transfer as 'Jurgen Klopp looks to muscle ahead of Barcelona for Man Utd flop'

LIVERPOOL have been linked with a shock move for ex-Manchester United forward Memphis Depay.

Jurgen Klopp's side have struggled for goals since the turn of the year as question marks begin to be asked about their long-time front three Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mo Salah.

And while Diogo Jota has come in this season to freshen things up in an attacking sense, the Reds are thought to be seeking more options in the transfer window.

According to Marca, Liverpool are considering a bid for Depay, who has impressed since joining Lyon in 2017.

In 169 appearances for the French side, he has scored 69 times and provided a further 52 assists.

And with his contract coming to an end this summer, Klopp's men could be poised to land him on a free transfer.

Depay left the Premier League for Lyon after a disappointing spell with Man Utd.

The Dutchman netted just seven times in 53 games for the Red Devils before being offloaded by Jose Mourinho just 18 months after he had signed.

But now, aged just 27, he may be set for a second chance in England.

However, there is also interest in Depay from elsewhere in Europe, most notably Spanish giants Barcelona.

Barca boss Ronald Koeman is keen to bring the Netherlands international to the Nou Camp as a transfer battle with Liverpool prepares to ensue.

The Catalan outfit have also been linked with current Anfield-based midfielder and fellow Dutchman Georginio Wijnaldum.

The 30-year-old will also be a free agent at the end of the season if the Reds cannot agree a new contract.
