Lakers assistant Miles Simon diagnosed with pneumonia after getting sick at preseason game

Miles Simon, an assistant coach with the Los Angeles Lakers who left Staples Center on a stretcher Thursday night after the team's game against the Sacramento Kings, has been diagnosed with pneumonia, according to the Lakers.

Alison Bogli, director of media relations for the Lakers, on Friday said by email that Simon, 42, will miss the team’s preseason game against the Los Angeles Clippers Saturday night and “will be day-to-day moving forward.’’

When Simon was taken out of the arena Thursday night, Lakers head coach Luke Walton declined to address the matter with the media, according to published reports.

Simon, a former star at the University of Arizona, joined the Lakers’ coaching staff before the 2017-18 season.
