Keita Balde Diao to miss Senegal's Africa Cup of Nations game after email gaffe by country's FA

The 23-year-old would have been a likely starter against Equatorial Guinea on Saturday.

But the Senegal FA sent notice of his call-up to the wrong Inter Milan email address.

When the gaffe was realised, it was too late to convince the Italian club to release the winger.

A statement from Senegal vice-president Abdoulaye Sow read: "We have sent an email to Inter to inform them of the summoned player.

"But it was sent to the old e-mail address that Internazionale Milano no longer uses.

"They changed their address.

"At the current moment, the player can not leave and can not be called to join us. His club is uncompromising."

Unsurprisingly, the world of social media despaired over the technological oversight.

US radio host Alex Donno wrote: "You can't make this stuff up," while Italian journalist Tancredi Palmer described it as the "weird news of the day".

Tyler Richardson wrote that "communication is key", while Julien Auguste posted that it was "incompetence".
