Juan Mata reveals secret behind free-kick that inspired Manchester United comeback against Newcastle

The Spaniard also thanked supporters who were in Old Trafford and said they were the ones who inspired the performance.

Mata, who put his free kick down to practice, concentration and confidence. called Saturday's win "special" and thanked the fans at Old Trafford for getting behind their team during uncertain times.

Writing on his blog, he said: "In the second half we gave all that we had. From pushing on, courage and our football, we turned the scoreline around.

"Thanks to all of this and the incredible support of our fans, of course, we were pushed towards the three points.

"The energy and lift that the fans gave us was key to taking the win.

"The dying minutes, above all, Old Trafford transformed into the kind of stadium that every other one in the world wants to be, a stadium where goals can be scored from the stands too.

"It was amazing to be able to feel that from the pitch itself.

"In those moments, you realise just how special our fans are."

It was perhaps little surprise that Mata found his name on the score-sheet from a free-kick.

Since his Premier League debut in 2011, he has scored more direct free-kicks than any other player, with an impressive eight goals.

Gylfi Sigurdsson trails behind him on seven.

But, the Spaniard says it takes three key factors to get a record like his; practice, concentration and confidence.

And it was a culmination of all three that helped him find the back of the net which enabled a switch in mentality for the Red Devils.

Alexis Sanchez has come under fire,  just like his boss, for his recent performance.

But he turned out to be the saviour of the game as he found the back of the net from a header in the dying minutes.

And the win was certainly a team effort.

Sunsport revealed that Mourinho listened to his players during their half-time powwow and even chose to use tactics suggested by Paul Pogba.
