The Portuguese boss ran onto the field after United's remarkable late comeback and cupped his ears towards the hostile home support.
His side were heading for back-to-back defeats against Juve until Juan Mata and an Alex Sandro own goal sealed three crucial Champions League points for the Reds.
Mourinho sparked a rivalry with Juventus supporters during his time at Inter Milan when he helped guide them to a famous treble during the 2009-10 season.
And he received a barrage of abuse from the home fans throughout the contest.
In true Mourinho-fashion, he was happy to play the pantomime villain at the full-time whistle, revelling in United's shock turnaround.
According to the Mirror, a 'United insider' has defended Mourinho's actions because he was spat it.
They insisted: "Considering what had happened during the game it was understandable that Jose acted in that manner.
“It just wasn’t nasty personal insults, he was forced to put up with, but he was also spat at.Some of the spittle also landed on Jose’s assistants. It wasn’t very pleasant.
“What he did was just to show some emotion after a tremendous win.”
Mourinho even admitted that emotions got the better of him at the end of the game.
He added: "I didn’t offend anyone at the end, I just made a gesture that I wanted to hear them louder.
"I probably shouldn’t have done it, and with a cool head I wouldn’t have done it, but with my family insulted, including my Inter family, I reacted like this."
