Jose Mourinho leads top managers' Uefa summit in place of Sir Alex Ferguson… but why is Arsene Wenger there?

Uefa coaching ambassador Sir Alex Ferguson was absent as he recovers from brain surgery, but old Premier League foes – and now pals – of his got together in Switzerland.

Jose Mourinho sat at the centre of a group of elite bosses for a photo, which also included Arsene Wenger.

Newcastle's Rafa Benitez was also in attendance along with the likes of Max Allegri, Carlo Ancelotti, Julen Lopetegui and Thomas Tuchel.

And Uefa deputy general secretary Giorgio Marchetti says the men came away from the meeting backing "a unified window."

Though trading in most European leagues ended on August 31, English clubs could not buy players after August 9 and the Italian deadline was August 17.

English leagues switched this year aiming to avoid disrupting team plans after leagues kicked off.

And Mourinho has been vocal about his frustration that the rest of Europe have longer to buy players.

Marchetti says the coaches agreed: "There should be one window ending at the same time and that window should not overlap with competitions."

A Fifa panel is currently drafting recommendations about changes to the transfer market and trading periods.
