Jose Mourinho is better than Pep Guardiola for one reason, says Diego Maradona

But do you agree with him?

The Argentina legend explained why he thinks the Manchester United manager is better than his City rival in a revealing interview with Marca.

Maradona, who currently bosses Mexican second-tier side Dorados, says he intends to travel to Manchester to get advice from Mourinho.

The Portuguese was humbled 3-1 by Guardiola's all-conquering superstars last weekend.

But that has not changed Maradona's decision on who is the better manager.

Quizzed on why he will go to see Mourinho and not Guardiola, Maradona said: "Because he [Mourinho] is the best without doubt."

Asked if that is because he is better than Pep, Maradona gave his answer and explained why.

He said: "For me yes, Mou is best.

"I would give Pep the merit of taking advantage of the launch that Johan Cruyff gave him.

"I have said on more than one occasion that tiki-taka was not invented by Guardiola.

"At the moment Pep is able to choose any player in the world that he wants. That way tiki-taka is easier."

Maradona also opened up on his rift with Lionel Messi.

The Hand of God superstar, 58, claimed last month that Messi cared more about his Barcelona side than the national team.

And he said he was not a leader because he "goes to the toilet 20 times before a match".

Messi’s cousin Maxi Biancucchi branded Maradona, who has battled weight problems as well as addictions to drugs and alcohol, "ignorant" over his comments.

But now the 1986 World Cup winner insists the argument is "all lies" and that he wants to patch things up with Messi.

He said: "Leo is a friend of mine and I never talk badly about a friend in public. I would say it to the face, and not through an interview.

"About Leo all I would say is that he is a phenomenon and nothing more.

"There are players that go to the bathroom 20 times but I never referred to Messi.

"I want to say that what I have with Leo is unconditional love, peace and affection.

"I want to give him a big hug because it is a long time since I saw him."
