Jose Mourinho fight: Manchester United manager charges at Chelsea bench as Blues assistant Marco Ianni appears to punch air in front of his face after Ross Barkley 96th-minute equaliser

A member of Chelsea's coaching staff — Marco Ianni — appeared to goad Mourinho by punching the air inches from his face, after the Blues made it 2-2 in the last minute.

Mourinho was furious and sprinted after Ianni, which then sparked a huge 20-man scrum in front of the tunnel involving both benches, stewards and players, who ran off the pitch to get involved.

Ianni had already appeared to run away down the tunnel.

Chelsea had led after Antonio Rudiger's opener, but then Anthony Martial hit back, scoring two.

But after five minutes of stoppage time, the home side poured forward and there was a frantic goal-mouth scramble as England midfielder Barkley latched on to a rebound to bag the equaliser.

And Ianni, who worked under Maurizio Sarri at Napoli, pumped his fist at Mourinho in a perceived act of disrespect.

Around 20 bodies appeared to pile into the scrum on the touchline.

Mourinho confirmed after the game that Ianni came into Sarri's office and apologised.

The United boss said: "His assistant came to me in Sarri's office and apologised to me.

"I said if you really feel that way I am not annoyed with anything.

"Sarri was the first one to come to me and say that he would resolve the problem internally with him, and after that his assistant came to me in Sarri’s office and apologised to me.

"Which I immediately said, ‘if you really feel that way and want to apologise then of course I accept apologies and forget it’ because I also made lots of mistakes in my career, so I’m not going to kill you because of one.

"It’s over. He apologised and I accepted it. I accept apology and forget it."
