Joe Benigno is set to return to WFAN tomorrow

Joe Benigno is expected to return to WFAN on Monday morning.

Since July, Benigno, 64, has been off the air after he was named in a sexual harassment lawsuit. WFAN and Entercom, its parent company, had deliberated how they should proceed, as the lawsuit still hangs over the station’s and Benigno’s head.

Beginning Monday, the decision is for Benigno to return to partner with Evan Roberts again from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on weekdays, according to sources. Entercom has not made any official announcement, and one source warned it could still change its mind.

Benigno’s first show back would be a chance to preview his beloved Jets opener on “Monday Night Football,” which likely would make it easier for Roberts and Benigno to get into their show after addressing the issue at hand. Benigno is alleged to have said some off-color things, and the show’s call screeners would have to be alert. The station and Benigno have rebuffed settlement talks.

Benigno first was heard on FAN as Joe from Saddle River, calling into programs. He then won a contest to be on the air before being the late-night host for many years. He and Roberts were paired in 2007.

There has been a lot of speculation that Benigno may retire soon. But for now, he is expected back on the air, starting Monday.
