Joao Pedro transfer transfer – odds: Newcastle lead Everton in race for Watford star despite £58m Alexander Isak deal | The Sun

NEWCASTLE have been touted as the leaders in race the race to sign young Watford star Joao Pedro this summer.

Betfair have priced the Magpies as 3/1 favourites for the Brazilian forward, though Everton aren't far behind them.

Both sides are being reported to have bid in the region of £30million for the 20-year-old, but the bookmakers reckon Eddie Howe's side are slightly ahead in the race.

The Toffees are priced at 5/1, while Leeds and Leicester are priced at 7/1 and 8/1 respectively.

Nottingham Forest and Wolves are both fancied at 10/1 to sign the Brazilian.

The forward signed for Watford from Brazilian side Fluminense as an 18-year-old in January 2020 and has made 78 appearances for the Hornets since joining.

The Brazilian started the first four games of Watford's current Championship campaign, scoring in the opener against Sheffield United before being left out of the squad for last weekend's draw with Preston.

The Magpies are in the market to strengthen their front line, and are already in advanced talks with Real Sociedad to sign striker Alexander Isak for a fee in the region of £58m.

Allan Saint-Maximin, Callum Wilson and Miguel Almiron have started all three games for Newcastle so far, with the latter starting out on the right but is more of an attacking midfielder by trade.

Pedro offers youth, talent and the ability to play anywhere across the forward line.

Everton have had a slow start to the season, picking up just one point from their three games so far.

The Toffees have already lost star man Richarlison this transfer window to Tottenham and it looks likely youngster Anthony Gordon could also be headed for the exit door as he seeks a move to Stamford Bridge.

With Dominic Calvert-Lewin out injured until at least mid-September, Frank Lampard's forward options are looking mightily threadbare.
