Jets forward Patrik Laine’s five-goal night wins fan $1 million

Forward Patrik Laine was money for the Winnipeg Jets on Saturday night when he scored five goals in an 8-4 win.

He also was money — literally — for a fan in Winnipeg.

Christopher Haley won a $1 million prize as part of supermarket chain Sobeys Safeway’s “Score & Win” promotion in which it randomly selects a shopper to potentially win prizes for a player’s achievements — three-goal game, four-goal game and five-goal game.

Haley will receive $50,000 every year for the next 20 years, according to Safeway.

A three-goal game wins a fan $1,000, and a four-goal game nets a fan $100,000. Thus, according to Safeway, Haley also will take home an additional $100,000 for the fourth goal and $1,000 in Safeway gift cards.

Laine, 20, set a franchise record with five goals. And all he needed was five shots to make it happen. He leads the league with 19 goals in 22 games.
