Jadon Sancho named Bundesliga player of the month after making home debut for England against USA

The ex-Manchester City player scored four goals for Borussia Dortmund last month — including a brace against Hertha Berlin, the youngest player to do so in the club's history.

Sancho moved to Dortmund in 2017 and made an instant impact, having been included in the first team immediately.

This season, however, the Camberwell-born player's form exploded, and Sancho has bagged five goals and added six assists for the German side.

That includes a goal against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League in October, becoming second-youngest English goalscorer in the elite competition.

The youngster's performances were now honoured with Bundesliga's Player of the Month award, to the delight of Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc.

He said: “I’ve rarely seen anything like it.

“He’s phenomenal. Even if he’s a different kind of player, he reminds me of Ousmane Dembele, in the sense that he’s almost impossible to defend against.

Zorc eventually went even further in his comparisons and gave Sancho an edge.

Jadon Sancho should have been a bag of nerves, but playing at Dortmund has been perfect for him

IT was supposed to be the biggest game of his life, but for Jadon Sancho it wasn’t even his biggest game of the week.

England’s latest teen sensation should have been a bag of nerves as he stepped out for his first senior international start at Wembley last night.

But having already helped Borussia Dortmund beat Bayern Munich in front of more than 80,000 at the Westfalenstadion at the weekend, he was never going to be fazed by a mere friendly against the USA.

This was the first time most England fans were able to take a proper look at the 18-year-old winger who has been fast-tracked into the senior international team by Gareth Southgate.

His debut in Croatia last month was played behind closed doors and his bold decision to leave Manchester City for Dortmund last year meant that he had never played a senior game in this country before.

He said: "But unlike Dembele he’s only 18, and he hadn’t played a minute in the top flight before he arrived."

Sancho's accolades have caught attention of Gareth Southgate as the forward debuted in the England shirt against Croatia in October, and shone at Wembley on Thursday for the first time in front of the English crowd.

October was a good month for Young Lions in the Bundesliga, as Reiss Nelson was titled the league's Rookie of the Month earlier this week.
