Humidor unlikely to run in Seppelt Wine Stakes: Weir

Darren Weir's Humidor, a brave third to Winx in the great mare's history-making fourth Cox Plate on Saturday, is in major doubt for the $2 million Seppelt Wine Stakes, the highlight of the final day of the Melbourne Cup carnival.

The six-year-old gelding pulled up sore after the race and may now be forced to miss what was his major spring target.

''Humidor has got a bit of swelling in the leg this morning,'' Weir said at the Melbourne Cup launch at Flemington on Monday morning.

''He is probably unlikely to go there [to the Seppelt Wine Stakes, formerly the Mackinnon Stakes]. It is a shame as it the race he has been set for.

''You are trying to get your horse to perform in this week and little things go wrong.''

Humidor was one of the strongest fancies for the race this year: apart from his Cox Plate third he had won the group 1 Memsie Stakes earlier this season and been competitive at the highest level in all of his starts.

He had originally been named as top weight for the Melbourne Cup but connections had opted to go for the shorter race.
