The Internal Revenue Service says it will accept and process federal tax returns starting Monday, Jan. 27.

You’ll have until April 15 to submit your returns for 2019 and pay any taxes you owe. Most of the more than 150 million returns projected to be filed are likely to be submitted before the mid-April deadline.

If you want to get an early start poring over statements and W-2s, you don’t have to wait until the 27th to start working on your returns, the federal agency says. You can head to a tax preparer, go through the IRS Free File program or tap into a tax software program as soon as this week. But the IRS won’t begin to review your returns until the official start date this month.

Rettig said taxpayers can find answers at IRS.gov. They can get assistance through IRS Free File or from trained volunteers based at offices across the USA.
