How did so many NASCAR drivers crash into a wall?

CONCORD, N.C. – The NASCAR Cup Series’ first race on the half-oval, half-road course – or roval – at Charlotte Motor Speedway wasn’t living up to the crazy hype and promise of chaos for the first elimination race of the playoffs. And then suddenly with just six laps left, it seemed like everyone had driven into a wall.

The first of 17 turns on the 2.28-mile roval is a sharp left, aptly nicknamed Heartburn Turn.

Drivers didn’t seem to have an issue with the hard left all day, whether it was on restarts or not. But on lap 103 of 106 with Brad Keselowski leading the way on a restart, something happened and he drove into the wall, taking playoff drivers Kyle Larson and Kyle Busch, among several others with him.
