Geelong will retain outstanding midfield recruit Tim Kelly in 2019 with the Cats' CEO Brian Cook saying the club won't entertain any offers for the 23-year-old West Australian at the end of the year.

Kelly is on a two-year deal after Geelong used pick No.24 to select the mature aged recruit in last season's draft but speculation has been strong that he would return to Western Australia for family reasons.

Kelly has three children with his partner Caitlin with the pair having twins in January.

However Cook told K-Rock Football on Saturday that trading Kelly during the upcoming trade period was not an option and he would remain a Cat next season.

He said the Cats would not be looking to trade quality players to get to the top of the draft.

"The obvious candidate now is Tim Kelly if we wanted to get a first round pick or even two you could do probably go down that path but we have no intention of considering that seriously," Cook said.

"At the end of this year we will not be considering [offers]"

Kelly has played every game this season and has outshone champions Gary Ablett, Joel Selwood and Patrick Dangerfield at times in the midfield.

Cook also said that the club wanted to retain coach Chris Scott beyond the end of his next contract in 2019 with the CEO confirming his intention to extend his deal.

"We expect Chris to be our coach in the long term," Cook said.

"We think he is a very good coach and he will be good for this club also if we do happen to go through a transition."

Scott won a premiership in his first season with the club in 2011 and has taken the Cats into finals in all but one season at the helm.
