Former Clemson baseball player, brother charged in assault

Police have charged a former Clemson baseball player and his brother in connection with a vicious assault against a man in downtown Greenville, South Carolina, early Saturday morning. 

Witnesses told police three people assaulted the man and continued to attack him after he was unconscious, according to a press release from the Greenville Police Department. The assault happened at about 12:41 a.m., police said. 

John Grant Cox, 22, and brother Ronald Carl Cox III, 27, both of Greenville, were arrested and charged with assault and battery by mob, police said.

John Cox is a former Clemson baseball player who is suing the university's sports medicine department for medical malpractice, The Greenville News reported in February.
