Former Chelsea and Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti nets half-brother to top filly Sea Of Class

The decorated football manager – who is currently in charge at Napoli – bought the half-brother to Irish Oaks-winner Sea Of Class at the Tattersalls' October sale last week.

Although not there in person, it was revealed Ancelotti made the purchase through his broker and breeder Alessandro Botti – for a cool €240,000.

The yearling was raised by Botti himself at a breeding centre on the outskirts of Rome, and he was delighted to have acted on behalf of the current Napoli boss.

"We bought him for €240,000," Botti told Paris-Turf.

"Carlo was really happy to become owner of a horse of this quality with his friend in Naples, Giovanni

"It's a dream because he is the half-brother to one of the best fillies of her generation. His maternal line is fantastic. His mother produced several Classic winners.

"In view of all these elements, I find it a little surprising that the yearling's reserve price has not been reached.

"Of course, it's brilliant for racing that people like Carlo and Giovanni are investing more and more in this sport."

Ancelotti becomes the latest in a long line of football legends to enter the racing world, following in the footsteps of icons including Sir Alex Ferguson and Michael Owen.

Brighton And Hove Albion chairman Tony Bloom has been involved in the sport in recent years and has had big winners with the likes of Penhill, Withhold and Librisa Breeze.

Leicester City's owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha is also another high profile chairman also set on a spending spree on the horses.

This summer, star footballer Antoine Griezmann's racehorse Tornibush bagged a nice pot just minutes after Griezmann scored for France in the World Cup.
