The 41-year-old boxing legend, who hung up his gloves with a perfect 50-0 record in August 2017, will fight Japanese star Tenshin Nasukawa in the Far East nation on December 31.
Mayweather, 41, announced he is taking on the undefeated 20-year-old in Tokyo at a news conference this morning.
The American said: “As far as the weight class and the rules, we’ll talk about that, we’ll get that situated within the next couple of weeks.
“It wasn't easy to make this happen but we told the people anything is possible, so now we're here and we wanna make sure that we give the people in Tokyo what they wanna see blood, sweat and tears.”
Despite being the former pound-for-pound king in the boxing ring, the clash will be Mayweather’s first in kickboxing.
But he believes his big fight past and his opponent’s youth will help to produce a thrilling encounter for the public.
He said: “I'm older now. I think that when it comes to experience, I have more experience on my side.
“But when it comes to youth, youth is on his side.

“We're giving the people something they've never seen before.
“As far as the weight class, we're not really worried about that. When it's all said and done, it's all about me going out there displaying my skills against another skillful fighter.
“So we both want to go out there and display our skills and give people excitement.”
Mayweather will take on Nasukawa at the New Year’s Eve event in the Japanese Rizin Fighting Federation (RFF).
Mayweather retired from boxing after defeating UFC star Conor McGregor in a boxing match in Las Vegas, taking his record to a perfect half century between the ropes.
Rumours have been circulating for months that he will also be returning for a rematch against Manny Pacquiao.
Another Octagon ace Khabib Nurmagomedov, who explosively defeated McGregor last month, is also chasing a blockbuster two-fight deal to battle Mayweather.
