Floyd Mayweather to fight a ‘former Japanese boxer’ in first of FIVE exhibitions that will make him £62m

The American will be fighting an as yet unnamed "former Japanese boxer" and hopes to pocket around £7.8m from the first of his series of bouts.

Mayweather fought kick-boxer Tenshin Nasukawa on New Year's Eve for £7m, winning inside a round after knocking his opponent down three times.

Though the 41-year-old is unaware of the identity of his next opponent, he is banking on another hefty purse – having been named the highest paid athlete in the world in last month.

He told TMZ Sports: “They called. I’ve got another one in Japan. I think in July, like 10 million [dollars] – three rounds. Always my rules.

"A Japanese boxer, a former boxer, from what I heard, I got a call today.

Despite being keen to discuss the details regarding his next foray into the ring, the five-weight world champion was not keen to open up on a possible rematch with Manny Pacquiao.

He added: “I’m not even here to talk about boxing right now, man I’m living life, I’m eating so good, so many smart investments.

“I think I’ve got just an exhibition… alone this year about 4-5 exhibitions – 80 million [dollars].

“Eight million this year, I don’t have to do the real thing, I am the real thing, I’ve proved myself.

And it doesn't appear likely that Mayweather will be tempted to go toe-to-toe with a superstar from the MMA either.

He beat Conor McGregor in August 2017 to take his professional record to 50-0.

But neither a rematch with the Irishman or a clash with Khabib Nurmagomedov appeals either.

The Olympic bronze medallist from Atlanta 1996 stated: “No – I’m not worried about that.”
