Fifty Stars will head to Perth after Cup day win

Fifty Stars will now head to the group 1 Railway Stakes in Perth after thrashing his rivals over 1400 metres in race three on Melbourne Cup day.

The horse was beautifully ridden by Ben Allen, coming from midfield to quickly overcome the Tony McEvoy-trained Manuel with the James Cummings-trained Haunted finishing in third place.

With trainer Darren Weir stuck in traffic, and therefore not in attendance at Flemington when the race was run, owner Gerry Ryan confirmed to Fairfax Media that the four-year-old would run in the Railway Stakes on November 24.

Stable representative Simon McCartin stepped in to speak on Weir's behalf after the race and said the wet conditions suited the horse, who was third up.

"He's an exciting horse going forward," McCartin said.

He has now won five of his seven starts and been placed in his other two starts.
