Fantasy football deep sleepers: New QB could boost Kelvin Benjamin

It’s Week 7 of the fantasy football season. If you are looking for an unexpected roster replacement or an inexpensive starter for your daily fantasy lineup, here are players who could help.

These deep sleepers are players flying under the radar whose matchups suggest they could have a big game in Week 7. Just remember, they are risky fantasy plays given the other options likely available.

QB Baker Mayfield, Cleveland Browns

Don’t give up on Mayfield. Based on his matchups, Mayfield has been on the verge of a major breakout, but his receivers keep dropping the football. This week, the Browns play a Tampa Bay Buccaneers defense giving up a league-leading average of 367 yards and three touchdowns passing per game.

Fantasy rankings: How players stack up at each position in Week 7

Almost weekly, the Buccaneers defense is the worst in the league. Mayfield is a great streaming option and solid QB2 in two-quarterback leagues.

RB Nick Chubb, Cleveland Browns

For the Browns to beat the Buccaneers, they will have to run the football, too. Coach Hue Jackson has twice said Chubb needs more carries — and rightly so as he is averaging 10.8 yards per carry and has scored twice on just 16 attempts.

WR Willie Snead, Baltimore Ravens

The Ravens play Snead’s former team, the New Orleans Saints, who lead the league with 229 yards and two TDs allowed per game just to wide receivers. Snead is in line for 60 to 70 yards and should score his second touchdown of the season. Snead is a solid PPR play and available in two-thirds of leagues.

WR Kelvin Benjamin, Buffalo Bills

Benjamin has been a mystery this season. This week, the Bills start quarterback Derek Anderson against the Indianapolis Colts. Anderson and Benjamin previously played together on the Carolina Panthers.

In Anderson’s two starts they played together, Benjamin hauled in 11 catches for 162 yards and a touchdown. He should serve as Anderson’s red-zone threat and have his best game of the season.

TE Tyler Higbee, Los Angeles Rams

Higbee should see more action this week against a San Francisco 49ers pass defense that has allowed 369 yards to the position with a league-leading four touchdowns. Niners opponents have targeted the position in the red zone at least once per game. Higbee could get 50 yards receiving and a touchdown.

New York Jets defense/special teams

The Jets are being shunned against a Vikings offense whose running game has struggled and whose quarterback has failed to throw for multiple touchdowns in two of the last three games.

The Jets blitz a ton and Kirk Cousins, who has been sacked an average of three times per game, will be under duress. Notably, they have done well against passing offenses like the Lions, Broncos, and Colts. Against these three teams, the Jets have nine interceptions and three defensive touchdowns.
