Euro golfer Joost Luiten’s social distancing trick shot ‘almost kills’ girlfriend

Swing and a wish-you-missed.

Dutch golfer Joost Luiten was practicing a trick shot with his caddy, who was throwing him his club from 1.5 meters away — as per new coronavirus guidelines — and going directly into a swing. Initially, he wasn’t making much contact. But after several attempts, Luiten accidentally sent a ball directly into his girlfriend Melanie-Jane Lancaster who was filming the attempts close by.

The video shows Luiten grab his face in horror as Lancaster let out a yelp in pain. She fortunately only suffered a bruise from the incident.

“Pff playing golf with a caddy and keeping the 1.5m is hard,” Luiten, 34, wrote along with the clip on Instagram. “Almost killing my girlfriend in the process(sic) trying to master social distancing (she survived, just a bruise).”

Luiten, who primarily plays in Europe, is the 98th ranked golfer in the world.
