Epsom Derby 2021 odds: THREE favourites including High Definition lead the market at 5-1

THE Epsom Derby is shaping up to be an absolute cracker this year.

And the early ante-post market is showing it will be an incredibly tough one to call, with THREE joint-favourites.

One of those is Aidan O'Brien's High Definition, who has swung massively from being early 3-1 market leader.

O'Brien revealed the horse would skip his intended return at Lingfield after blood tests revealed he was not '100 per cent'.

That promptly saw a plunge the wrong way in the market with the three-year-old – unbeaten in a short two-race caeer – drifting to 7-1.

However, punters have now regained faith and the son of Galileo – who has been confirmed for Thursday's Dante Stakes at York – has returned to 5-1.

He shares those odds with Bolshoi Ballet and Mohaafeth.

Another O'Brien-trained horse, Bolshoi Ballet put in an impressive winning performance at Leopardstown last month and is 5-1 to complete the feat on June 5 having been as high as 20-1.

Mohaafeth trounced the four-runner field when winning the listed Betfair Newmarket Stakes on May 1, scooping the £22,684 first-place prize by five lengths from 4-5 favourite that day, Secret Protector.

He joins High Definition and Bolshoi at the head of the market.

Van Gogh has remained steady at 8-1 while Mac Swiney, the Jim Bolger-trained horse who has done all his winning at big odds, has come into 9-1 from 14s.

Behind them lie a load of horses who have shortened dramatically in the betting.

The Godolphin-owned Adayar has plummeted from 33-1 to 12-1, while Hurricane Lane is the same odds now having been 50-1.

Sir Lamorak is 12-1 having been 33-1 while Wordsworth, Chester winner El Drama and Kyprios are all 16s, the latter of that trio having been a whopping 100-1.

The rest are 20-1 bar.
