Eddie Jones has subsequently left the Bath ace out of the Six Nations squad to face Italy at Twickenham this afternoon after the search to find his grandfather was called off by police.
The 87-year-old went missing at around 5pm on Monday while swimming with his daughter and niece at the Caribbean island.
Joseph's family alerted police when they lost sight of him after he went under the water, before reappearing.
A spokesperson for the the Royal Grenada Police said yesterday: "He then attempted to swim to the shore but he went further out to sea.
"It was high tide and that is the Atlantic side of the island, so the seas can be very rough."
