Edmonds to let Mystic Moon fly in Jacaranda Prelude

Gold Coast trainer Toby Edmonds believes Mystic Moon is good enough to knock off one of Northern Rivers' bigger sprints and it could come as early as next week.

The six-year-old will head to Grafton for the Jacaranda Prelude on Tuesday on the fresh side and Edmonds believes the free-running mare can get the job done.

“She was disappointing in a strong race at Doomben last time but we took hold of her and she is better when she is let run,” Edmonds said. “We have drawn well at Grafton and I think you will see her run really well.

“She is the type of horse that could win one of those country sprints down there without surprising me. And the prizemoney down there is pretty good.

“I think the Jacaranda Cup looks a great race for her but she just needs this run to be right at her top for that.

“She is owned by my daughter, so it would be good to see her back on the winner’s list.”

Mystic Moon has drawn gate two, but topweight Lucky Meteor was not as fortunate coming up with barrier 12 as he gets ready to defend his Jacaranda Cup title next month.

"When they have to carry that sort of weight, you definitely need some favours with a good gate, but that hasn't happened," Lucky Meteor's trainer John Shelton said.

"It now makes it that much tougher for him, but he does have a great record over the 1100m at Grafton and hopefully he can get across and either lead or sit just off the leader.

"But obviously he can't afford to have to do too much work with that weight. It'll certainly be a great effort if he can win again at Grafton on Tuesday."

Edmonds is looking forward to Flemington on Saturday as last-start Caulfield winners Winter Bride and From Within attempt to keep his fine spring carnival going.

Winter Bride has won two group 3 races against the mares at Caulfield and takes on open company in the Linlithgow Stakes down the straight, while From Within will step up to group 3 company over 1100m after an all-the-way Listed win at Caulfield.

“They are both going great and it would be a big day to win a race or two during the Melbourne Cup carnival,” Edmonds said.
