Doncaster racecourse forced to abandon remaining two races as track deemed 'unfit for racing'

Officials inspected the track after Joueur Bresilien and Aidan Coleman slipped up on the bend in the fifth race on the card and the decision to cut short the meeting was taken shortly after.

The first four races took place with no serious incidents but following the accident in the fifth, jockeys and officials were called to inspect the track.

With the course set to host a seven-race card on Saturday, the track decided to stop racing early so they could begin to work on the course to ensure it is safe enough for Saturday.

Clerk of the course Roderick Duncan explained to attheraces: "None of us want to see horses coming down like that.

"It gave us a problem earlier in the day and the track has continued to dry as we've gone through the day.

"The consensus was it wasn't safe. The chase course has been less problematic, but we wanted to start our preparation by slitting the track and starting watering now to get it right for tomorrow.

"We'll aerate the track and get some irrigated water on to it.

"There is a bit of rain forecast for tonight. That's all we can do, I think."
