Dodgers closer Kenley Jansen to miss piviotal series vs. Rockies for precautionary reasons

The Los Angeles Dodgers will be without All-Star closer Kenley Jansen when the club travels to Denver for a pivotal three-game series against the Colorado Rockies this weekend.

Jansen had an irregular heartbeat the last time he visited Denver, and his cardiologist advised that he not make the road trip to the Mile High City for precautionary reasons, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts confirmed on Wednesday.

Instead, Jansen will rejoin the team in Cincinnati on Monday.

"Whenever we get that decision from the doctor, it's sort of a no-brainer, but you have to applaud Kenley for feeling good and wanting to still kind of see it through," Roberts said. "But we sometimes have to take it out of the player's hands to do what is best for him."

Jansen was hospitalized for the irregular heartbeat on Aug. 9 and spent 10 days on the disabled list. He also had an irregular heartbeat in 2012.

Jansen expressed his disappointment in a tweet, but remained optimistic.
