Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson confirms Christian Benteke will not play for the rest of the year following knee surgery

The Belgian forward, who has made just four appearances this season, underwent minor knee surgery earlier this week.

Benteke underwent 'minor arthroscopic explorative surgery and wash out of his knee' due to an ongoing problem.

A statement released by the club after the operation confirmed that the 27-year-old would "return to training very soon".

But Sky Sources have now revealed that the Eagles will be without him until the New Year.

This means that he will miss matches against Everton, Arsenal, Chelsea, Brighton and Tottenham.

Following the surgery, Benteke tweeted: "After discussions with medical staff it was decided minor anthroscopy would be the best way to get me back on the pitch at 100 per cent.

"All has gone well. Now to concentrate on getting back to full health as soon as possible."

The statement from Palace read: "The club can confirm that Christian Benteke has undergone minor arthroscopic explorative surgery and washout of his knee, as it had not been settling with conservative management.

"The surgeon was happy with the outcome and we expect Christian to return to training very soon.

"A further update will be given in a few weeks' time."

The striker has not featured for the Eagles since the club's 2-0 defeat against Southampton on September 1.

And he is yet to find the net for Palace this season, who are 14th in the table with seven points.
