The former Real Madrid pair will both face trial in Madrid on Tuesday, accused of fiscal fraud.
Juventus forward Ronaldo has agreed a deal with Spanish authorities that will see him pay £16.9million, and accept a two-year prison sentence.
However, having agreed the deal, Ronaldo will skip any time spent in jail as under Spanish law the sentence can be served on probation.
Ronaldo, who spent nine years at the Santiago Bernabeu, was accused by The Spanish Treasury of not paying £12.8m in tax on his image-rights earnings between 2011 and 2014.
While former Liverpool midfielder Alonso is accused of owing nearly £1.7m tax after failing to declare earnings from image rights “with the intention of obtaining an illicit fiscal benefit”.
Alonso is accused of selling his image rights to Kardazli, a Madeira-based company, in 2009.
The Spaniard allegedly sold the image rights in 2009 when he was a non-resident taxpayer in Spain following his move from Anfield.
According to prosecutors it illegally continued “until at least 2012”.
Alonso, like Ronaldo had the option to make a deal, however, he declined meaning he could face time behind bars.
Spanish tax authorities have called for a five-year jail term if Alonso is tried and found guilty – and the Public Prosecutor has asked for EIGHT YEARS.
Last year prosecutors accused Alonso of not making "real use" of the Madeira-based company.
Instead the Spaniard was accused of turning “that entity into a mere formal instrument of income and payments that did not develop any function in the use of the image of the accused," from companies such as Real, Adidas, Gillette, Yamaha and Hugo Boss.
In March of last year Alonso denied any wrongdoing and claimed he will not accept a deal on “a matter of principle”.
Alonso added: "I trust that this will end in good port even though it is going to be long, but I am convinced that I have always done everything well."
