Cricket star rushed to hospital after collapsing on the pitch

Pace bowler Nathan Coulter-Nile sank to the pitch after completing his last over for the Perth Scorchers against the Adelaide Strikers in the Big Bash League.

The player spent a few minutes on the ground being attended to by medical staff before being helped from the field.

Coulter-Nile, 31, has been selected for Australia's one-day international and Twenty20 squad to tour India from later this month.

Later, Perth Scorchers revealed that their paceman had suffered a significant episode of vertigo.

Their physio Chris Quinnell said: "Nathan was hit with a bad bout of vertigo at the end of his final bowling over.

"He was taken to hospital after the game as a precaution and will be monitored over the next few hours."

Coulter-Nile could be seen gesturing toward the Scorchers' dug-out after bowling the fifth ball of an over as the match drew to a close.

After speaking with Perth captain Mitchell Marsh, Coulter-Nile bowled the sixth and final ball, which was hit for six by Adelaide's Harry Nielsen.

He was then seen to stagger slightly, before sinking to his haunches then sitting on the ground.

Although the game ended in a five-wicket defeat for the Scorchers, Coulter-Nile had been one of his side’s stand-out performers prior to his collapse.

He hit a buccaneering 25 runs from just eight balls, including three sixes and a four, before taking 2-28 from his four overs.
