AFLW Rising Star winner Chloe Molloy will miss the entire 2019 season, after the Collingwood star injured her right foot in last week's VFLW preliminary final loss to Geelong.
Molloy, also Collingwood's AFLW best-and-fairest winner and All-Australian in her first AFLW season, was injured when tackled in the first quarter of the VFLW match on Sunday. She will have surgery because of the Lisfranc injury, ruling her out for the season.
Collingwood star Chloe Molloy will miss the 2019 AFLW season with injury.
The 19-year-old said she would work with the team off-field next season, but was disappointed not to be pulling on the boots for her second AFLW season.
“I was really looking forward to running out with the team again in 2019, but hopefully it creates an opportunity for another young footballer to work hard and achieve her dream,” Molloy said in a Collingwood statement.
“While I won’t be on the field with them, I’ll do everything I can to help and support the team in 2019.”
Marcus Wagner, the Magpies' performance and strategy manager, said the injury had been "devastating" for Molloy, "who has put in a lot of hard work since her standout first AFLW season with the club".
She will have surgery next week on her right foot.
“I’m sure Chloe will do everything she can to get back on the field as soon as possible, and in the meantime she’ll remain involved in our AFLW program to continue her football development,” Wagner said in the statement.
