Chelsea’s Azpilicueta has more Champions League goals than Cristiano Ronaldo in FEWER shots this season – The Sun

CESAR AZPILICUETA has more Champions League goals than Cristiano Ronaldo this season.

And the Chelsea captain has achieved that feat in FEWER shots than the Juventus superstar.

Azpilicueta, 30, netted in last night’s 2-1 win over Lille at Stamford Bridge.

The result secured Chelsea’s place in the Champions League last-16 at the expense of Ajax.

And the header marked Azpi’s second goal of the European campaign.

It means he has an impressive shots-to-goals ratio, having had just four attempts across all six group stage games.

Meanwhile, Ronaldo, 34, has scored just once in five games for Juventus.

And the five-time Champions League winner has had 25 SHOTS on goal in total.

That poor stat may remain until February, as Juve have already qualified for the next round and may rest Ronaldo for tonight’s trip to Bayer Leverkusen.

The striker has scored only nine goals in total this season under Maurizio Sarri.

And his total of 28 last term – his first year in Turin – was his lowest since the 2008/09 campaign at Manchester United.

Indeed, Ronaldo scored over DOUBLE that amount on two occasions at Real Madrid, in the 2011/12 and 2014/15 seasons.

And doubts remain over whether the Portugal international will continue at Juve for much longer, with their Serie A dominance also in doubt thanks to the rise of Antonio Conte’s Inter Milan.

It’s been claimed that Ronaldo has conceded in private that leaving Real Madrid for Juventus was a mistake.

He ended a nine-year stint in Spain for an Italian job in 2018, with Juve paying £88million for his services.

But they fell short in the Champions League to Ajax, and Ronaldo is also finding his place in the team under threat from new boss Sarri.

It’s reckoned that the final nail in the coffin was Lionel Messi’s Ballon d’Or triumph last week – the Barcelona ace’s sixth in total.

And Ronaldo apparently feels he will never get past number five if he continues to play in Italy.

The legendary footballer has since been linked with Manchester United.

But Juventus chief Fabio Paratici is adamant Ronaldo will not be returning to Old Trafford any time soon.
