Chelsea use 'dark arts' to score from set pieces as Maurizio Sarri's side extend unbeaten run with 3-1 victory over Crystal Palace

Alvaro Morata scored twice in a 3-1 win over Crystal Palace to see Chelsea leapfrog Liverpool and go second in the Premier League.

But Redknapp believes Blues' new boss has instilled some sneaky tactics that helped them to victory against Roy Hodgson's side.

Redknapp said on Sky Sports: "For the second goal, it’s a brilliant finish by Morata, but Marcos Alonso has got hold of Mamadou Sakho.

“It’s a block. He puts his back into him and the ball goes to Morata. They are trying to make space for other players.

“It’s the dark arts. It’s trying to get every advantage you can because he [Alonso] has no intention of playing the ball.”

But Morata's goal was not the only time Chelsea used the tactic.

Before the Spaniard's second, Alonso could be seen holding onto Palace defender Sakho at a free-kick which allowed David Luiz to run through for a free attempt at goal.

And it was also not the only game as Redknapp went on to show footage of Alonso and Luiz blocking Southampton defenders during a win at St Mary's last month.

Sarri will not be pleased the tactic has been highlighted as he prepares to take his team to Everton next weekend where he can beat the record for an unbeaten run by a new Prem boss.

The last two times Chelsea did this, in 2005/06 and 2014/15, they won the title.

Redknapp's accusation comes just days after fellow Sky pundit Gary Neville claimed Manchester City were clever in committing innocuous fouls that prevented opponents breaking quickly.

Pep Guardiola launched an impassioned defence and insisted he had never asked his players to make deliberate fouls.

But Guardiola and Sarri's tricks have been highlighted, and opposition managers and referees will now be aware.
