Chelsea outcast Cesc Fabregas 'in talks with AC Milan' over sensational January transfer move amid pay cut threat

Italian news outlet Calciomercato claim Milan chief Leonardo has made contact with the out-of-favour Chelsea midfielder and a move would not be impossible.

Fabregas, 31, is out of contract in the summer and Chelsea risk losing him on a free.

So the Blues – who face a two-year transfer ban – could bring in extra funds by offloading the Spaniard, with Milan desperate to add to their injury-plagued side.

Milan are thought to be keen on former Barcelona star Fabregas but will need to negotiate a fee with the Blues.

And the World Cup winner – who left the Nou Camp for Chelsea in 2014 – would have to take a pay cut if she stays at the Bridge or goes.

How Chelsea transfer ban could pay off

BERTRAND TRAORE'S move to Stamford Bridge in 2017 has triggered a chain of events that could see Chelsea cut out of the transfer loop from January 2020 to the summer of 2021.

It gives the Blues just the next two windows to get their house in order.

Missing out on four consecutive markets would be a disaster for most clubs, but in Chelsea’s case, it might just give boardroom chiefs the push they need to move in a bold new direction.

The Blues’ academy has long been regarded as one of the best in Europe, having won two Uefa Youth Leagues, two National Premier Leagues and five FA Youth Cups since 2014.

And a potential transfer ban, coinciding with a number of senior stars entering the final stages of their Chelsea careers, means it's the perfect time to promote some prodigies.

Fabregas has been a target for Milan since last season but remained at Stamford Bridge after Maurizio Sarri replaced Antonio Conte this summer.

However, he has made just three sub Premier League appearances this season after Sarri brought in midfield playmaker Jorginho from Napoli.

Despite his lack of game time, Fabregas says he is keen to stay at Stamford Bridge, but would have to take a cut on his reported £160,000 a week, as Sun Sport reported last week.

Last month he said: "I’m very open about it.

“To be honest the club has not said anything. At the end of the day I have eight months left and at the moment I’m gone.

"But I’d love to stay at the club. I’ve been very happy for the last four years and a half. We’ve had great success, won many things.

"I think I have a good understanding with the fans and players. I feel I still have a lot of football left in me but it is now up to the club.”
