Chelsea legend Ashley Cole to be offered coaching role Frank Lampard after announcing retirement – The Sun

ASHLEY COLE will reportedly be offered a coaching role at Chelsea by Frank Lampard after the left-back announced his retirement.

Cole, 38, put an end to his trophy-laden 20-year career on Sunday while working as a pundit for Sky Sports.

The ex-Blues full-back watched on as former team-mate Lampard made a return to Stamford Bridge, but the Chelsea manager could only manage a point against Leicester.

Having signed Cole for Derby last season new Blues boss Lamps is set to hand the three-time Premier League winner a coaching role in his new look Chelsea set up.

The Daily Mail report Chelsea are planning to discuss a potential return for the left-back – who won the Champions League during his time in West London.

Cole travelled to Japan for the Blues pre-season tour this summer and it is understood Chelsea will help the 38-year-old complete his UEFA qualifications.

Stamford Bridge legend Petr Cech was this season appointed technical and performance adviser.

Claude Makelele and Paulo Ferreira, both league winners with Chelsea, are also part of the coaching set-up.

The door open has been left wide open for legendary forward Didier Drogba to also return to the club in some capacity.

Ex-England international Cole has confirmed his intentions to move into coaching.

He said: “After hard-thinking and consideration, it was time to hang my boots up and look forward to my next chapter, which will hopefully be coaching.

“I am doing the course at the moment and now I want to be great as a coach.”
