Chelsea fans slam ‘pointless’ VAR as Ben Godfrey’s stamp on Mason Mount goes unpunished – The Sun

CHELSEA fans slammed VAR as Ben Godfrey’s stamp on Mason Mount went unpunished.

The Canaries defender went in late on the Blues midfielder and caught him on the top of the foot in the 83rd minute.

Godfrey’s studs sunk into Mount’s foot with the 20-year-old wincing in pain as the decision was assessed by VAR.

However, after officials reviewed the late tackle they deemed it accidental and the Norwich centre-back escaped without even being carded.

Fans on Twitter raged at the decision, labelling VAR “pointless” having failed to penalise The Canaries player.

One said: "Mason Mount going off injured as a result of a deliberate stamp on his foot, that VAR deemed a fair challenge.

"Right, ok. Pointless, absolutely pointless."

One added: "I'm sorry, but how has VAR watched this stamp on Mount and not taken further action? Pointless technology."

Another commented: "Shocking decision. What’s the point of VAR then?"
