Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri open to allowing John Terry to return to club in coaching role

Terry is yet to decide on his next move after this week rejecting the chance to join Spartak Moscow on a one year deal.

The 37-year-old insists he still feels able to cut it as a player and there are understood to be several options available to him if he decides to stay active.

But Chelsea boss Sarri says Terry could have a role to play back at Stamford Bridge so long as he accepts it will not be as a player.

Sarri said: "It is up to him because if he wants to play for another season.

“I think it is right that he tries to play but if he wants to help us I am really very happy.

“I don't know if there is a chance he told me other things. I am talking about a week ago.

"He told me he wants to play but I don't know, I have to speak to him.

“Chelsea is his home. Of course I am open [to having] him because of his history with the club. He has won everything with the club so it is up to him.

“Here he is a point of reference, here it is John Terry's home so he will be very important for everybody, only the presence.

"The coaching staff I think. I want to give space to the younger players. Fortunately we have strong young players, and I would like to give them a space."
