Canberra amateurs get shot at star-studded Classic field

Emerging amateurs Isabelle Hawes, Amber Thornton and Adele Douglas will test themselves against some of Australia and Europe's best golfers at the Canberra Classic in March.

The Australia Ladies Professional Golf finalised the 144-strong field on Tuesday, with defending champion Jiyai Shin and hall of famer Laura Davies returning to Royal Canberra to chase a slice of the $150,000 prize pool.

Shin has become a Canberra favourite and the South Korean gun donated her $22,500 winner's cheque to the ALPG rookie camp and development initiatives last year

Shin and Netherlands rising star Anne Van Dam are ranked in the world's top 100, while six of the top 10 European Tour players will also be in the field.

Hawes, Thornton and Douglas will be playing at home and will be keen to take their chances after getting a taste of the Canberra Classic action last year. The tournament will run from March 1-3.
