Jair has spent much of his career in the South Korean K-League, including stints with Jeju United and Jeonnam Dragons – scoring 46 goals in 110 games.

He has also spent loan spells with Japan's Kashima Antlers and the Emirates Club in the United Arab Emirates.

"Jair has great experience, attacking flair, and has played at a couple of Korea's biggest clubs," Newcastle coach Ernie Merrick said.

"He's been successful in a high-quality league over an extended period, to have scored so many goals in a league as competitive and technical as the K-League is certainly impressive.

"I'm really looking forward to how he can combine with the likes of Ronnie (Vargas) and Dimi (Petratos) to create goal-scoring opportunities."

Jair is expected to join the squad for his first training session later this week.

The Jets will be aiming to build on last season's campaign in which they hosted the A-League grand final, losing 1-0 to Melbourne Victory.
