Bills upend Titans on last-second field goal for another surprise win

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. – The only way the Bills stand much chance of winning games this season is if their defense plays out of its mind and the offense does just enough to outscore the other team.

That’s precisely what happened Sunday afternoon at overcast New Era Field as the Bills’ defense was flying around all day against the Tennessee Titans, frustrating Marcus Mariota and his mates, and the pea-shooter Buffalo offense led by Josh Allen found a way to score one more point for a 13-12 victory.

Stephen Hauschka kicked a 46-yard field goal to win it at the final gun, culminating a final drive led by Allen and the Buffalo running game, right after the Titans had gone ahead on Ryan Succup’s fourth field goal of the game.

It was ugly in many ways for Allen, but he completed two key passes on the winning drive which extended 47 yards in 11 plays. Allen finished 10 of 19 for just 82 yards, but the Bills rushed for 144 yards, led by LeSean McCoy who had 85, matching his output from the first three games he played.

The defense announced it presence on the fourth play of the game when Tremaine Edmunds forced a fumble by wide receiver Taywan Taylor and Matt Milano recovered at the Titans 47.

Buffalo’s offense needs every short field it can get, and on this occasion, just as it did in Minnesota, it cashed in the break. It took 11 laborious plays to cover the distance, but in the end, Josh Allen scrambled on a second-and-10 and dove across the goal line to complete a 14-yard touchdown run.
