Big Baller Brand designer calls Lonzo Ball’s $200 ‘accessible’

Big Baller Brand unveiled Lonzo Ball’s second signature shoe on Wednesday with a promotional video for the ZO2.19 sneakers. Unlike last season’s ZO2 shoes, which were listed for $495, this sophomore installment of Lonzo’s shoe was listed at $200.

The new price point is a significant drop from the original shoe, but it’s not cheap at all – still more expensive than the retail prices for the Nike LeBron 16 and most Jordan Brand sneakers.

The designer of the ZO2.19 shoes, though, saw the price drop as an opportunity to make the shoe “accessible” to kids.

David Raysse told ESPN:

“Zo is the face of the future of the NBA and the youth, and we wanted to make sure that his second shoe was accessible to kids, so that they can really be a part of this. The price point is in line with all the competition out there.”

It’s more in line relative to the absurd $495 price, but the shoes are still overpriced and far from accessible. The LeBron 16 sneakers are listed at $185, which is basically the top price point for NBA signature shoes. Lonzo is coming in with a more expensive shoe than the best player on the planet and having the Big Baller Brand team calling it accessible. It’s laughable.

Raysse went on to admit what we already knew: The $495 price was only intended to draw attention.

“The $495 price point achieved its goal of being crazy disruptive, achieved its goal of making people look up and seeing the audacity and the swagger that Big Baller Brand has. The fact that we could even do that says a lot about the fact that it’s a movement more than anything else.”

While the shoes went on sale Wednesday, Big Baller Brand says it won’t be prepared to ship until February. There’s also a no-refund policy.
