Becky Lynch’s change of character gets thumbs up from WWE villain Alexa Bliss

Alexa Bliss has given her seal of approval to Becky Lynch after the WWE star’s recent on-screen attitude adjustment.

Lynch, perennially a crowd favourite, shocked fans by turning heel – playing the role of on-screen villain – by attacking her best friend Charlotte Flair at SummerSlam.

Such is the support for the Irishwoman, real name Rebecca Quin, much of the audience at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York cheered Becky’s dastardly antics.

And many fans and pundits felt it was the wrong move to switch the character of the 31-year-old battling underdog, who seemingly audiences just don’t want to boo.

But if there’s one star in WWE who does carry off the role to perfection, then it would be former Raw Women’s Champion, Alexa Bliss, 27, from Columbus, Ohio.

Mirror Sport’s Matty Paddock caught up with Bliss, real name Alexis Kaufman, for a conference call when the topic of Lynch’s turnaround was raised several times.

Bliss, so effective at drawing the ire of the WWE Universe, gave it her resounding approval.

She said: "I always favour when someone has a certain attitude adjustment or a little change, and I think it has been a long time coming for Becky.

"I think that attitude change is what she’s needed; she has a lot of spark and fire behind her and this change allows her to show that, whereas before she may have been restricted – this fits her better.

"I, personally, like Becky better as a bad guy and she has been a good guy for a long time – Charlotte has kind of poked the bear enough to the point that Becky is ready to stand up and change her attitude and I personally like it – it’s great."

Alexa Bliss meets Ronda Rousey for the Raw Women’s Championship at Hell in a Cell this Sunday, September 16 on WWE Network and Sky Sports Box Office.
