Beaming Sir Alex Ferguson takes rare selfie with Rio Ferdinand with Man Utd legend looking in excellent health

Fergie, who of course led the club to unrivalled success during his 26-year spell as manager, even had time to pose for a selfie with fellow club legend Rio Ferdinand.

The former England captain shared it on Instagram, writing: "Always enjoy seeing The Boss in good spirits!

"Great to be back at OT last night. Not the best result we were hoping for but we keep going and the reaction this weekend is key."

Ferguson also took his place in the stand a row ahead of outspoken former Red Devils defender Patrice Evra, and the pair enjoyed a warm embrace.

The 77-year-old has made an astonishing recovery from a brain haemorrhage suffered in May last year and attended his first match back at Old Trafford four months ago.

Fans were delighted to see the football legend looking so well.

Tracey Greer commented on Ferdinand's post writing: One and only Sir Alex", while Mahmoud Abidali posted that he "looks awesome".

Another wrote that seeing the pair together "always brings a smile to my face", and Tilly wrote that it was "so good seeing the boss look so well".

And Ferdinand's beard was also a big talking point on social media.

One person wrote how Rio looks like he had joined the "Hulk Hogan beard gang".

Gerry Burns wrote: "Nice dyed beard mate", and Luke James asked if he "had drawn it on".

Another, called "timmyboy" adds: "Gotta stop dyeing your beard mate it looks like action man's ."

"Foffy" is left wondering if Ferdinand's facial fuzz is "a stick on one".

Ferguson is currently working as a consultant back at United and was instrumental in brokering Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's appointment after Jose Mourinho was sacked.

Fergie also pulled the strings behind the scenes for the return of his former assistant Mike Phelan, 56.
