Baseball fan catches foul ball in cup before downing beer to send Chicago Cubs and New York Mets crowd wild

The plucky punter followed an age-old tradition and necked his pint afterwards to send the stadium wild.

All Star hitter Anthony Rizzo, 29, was the man who delivered the ball to the stands.

And he made sure he watched the fan accept his gift before holding the empty cup aloft in celebration.

Rizzo's cubs went on to win 7-4 last night as their supporters drank in the special occasion.

In June, a female fan won admirers all over America after matching the Cubs' punter's effort.

The brunette was in the upper tier of the Atlanta Braves' 14-1 thrashing of the San Diego Padres when Braves ace Ender Inciarte clipped a foul ball behind him and into the stands.

The woman, who was later identified as Gabby DiMarco, then grabbed her beer cup and downed the contents, cheered on by the Petco Park faithful in San Diego.

She took a few seconds to get going with her chug but got into her stride, polished off the pint and scored a home run.
