    Pennant backs Liverpool over Arsenal

Jermaine Pennant has insisted that Liverpool are in a "better place" than Arsenal and could overtake them in the title race.

He told talkSPORT: “At the moment, I would say Liverpool are in a better place than Arsenal. In the games that they’ve played, they look better than Arsenal right now. 100%.

“That’s not me being biassed; I think at the moment Arteta’s still tweaking; he doesn’t know what’s best, trying to fit everyone in the team; you see that in performances like against Fulham.

“We’ll write Man United off because they’re all over the shop at the moment. But I think Liverpool, playing Arsenal, Liverpool would be the favourites going into that game.”

Rice opens up on Arsenal move

Declan Rice has opened up on his move to Arsenal and admitted it was the "hardest decision" he has made in his career.

He said: "It was definitely the hardest decision I’ve had to make so far in football.

“Everyone knows my love for West Ham still even now. But overall it was a fairytale ending for me.

“I was obviously released at 14, went to West Ham, signed a two-year deal and once everything clicked in terms of my growth spurt, realised what position I am, put myself in a position where it was all or nothing really.

“I was kept in and around the first team and once I made my debut I’ve not looked back since.”

    Odegaard contract update

Fabrizio Romano has given an update on Martin Odegaard's contract talks with Arsenal.

He had claimed that the midfielder "loves" the club and that negotiations will continue over a new deal.

He told CaughtOffisde: “[Martin] Odegaard is in love with Arsenal, and Arsenal are in love with Odegaard, so the feeling is mutual that they will continue together for a long time.

“Odegaard is club captain, and an important player on and off the pitch.

“Arsenal are now planning to continue contract negotiations with Ødegaard in the next weeks and months, in order to get a new deal done, following the fine work they did to tie down other star players such as Bukayo Saka, William Saliba, Aaron Ramsdale and Reiss Nelson in recent months.

“Now it’s time for Odegaard – and Arsenal are very optimistic about a positive outcome to this story, with the Norwegian likely to sign a new long-term deal with an improved salary.

“We’re just waiting for the negotiations to continue in the next weeks and months.”

“I knew that if I waited another year, it probably would have been more challenging for me to make a lateral move within the Premier League, so I knew that time was of the essence at that point.

“If I went another season without playing, I would have probably had to take a step back and once you’re out of it, it’s hard to get back into it, especially when you’re not English.”
